Process

I strive to inspire creative imagination and tell a visual story by drawing exotic and fantastical portraits. I often create mystical "headdresses," as I call them, on the crowns of my subjects, which can be anything from Medusa-like octopus tentacles to an arrangement of plants. Using Micron archival ink pens, I utilize line drawing, pointillism, and hatching, plus some bold brush pen outlines. Using India ink, I sometimes add watercolor-like black and gray washes. These are done on claybord, which allows me to etch white lines into the black, or other times I'll use white ink pens to add similar details. Against this monochromatic backdrop, I add accents of gold (or occasionally silver) metal leaf.
